Granny Square

It´s been getting pretty cold around here lately and after being inspired here and here, I tackled the basket of wool left-overs and made a snuggly granny square blanket to use on top of my quilt to keep us warm during these cold nights. Click HERE for a granny square tutorial.

It´s Here!

In my mail box this week...the wonderful book Vintage Crochet. I bought this book mainly for the Chevron Blanket pattern ( better known as ripple afghan) but after looking through the book I see so many things that I´d like to make. I´m so grateful that I learned to crochet from my mother and in home economics at school. Although I lost touch with this hobby for many years because it seemed too fancy and frilly, I´ve come to love it again and I can´t wait to get started on the projects in the book. A while ago I made a small rug with all my left-over wools and garns and I look forward to buying some new cotton yarns in interesting colours. What will I make first...maybe the "Ava Wrap, or the "Joni Flower Tunic", or the "Picot Star Tablecloth"???...well, I still have some time to think about it while I finish hand stitching my quilt.

Autumn Crafting

I had a basket full of left-over bits of wool, not enough of any color to make something with so after seeing all the crocheting going on I decided to make a small rug. Once I started, it just kept getting bigger and ended up 50cm in diameter (20"). All you do is keep crocheting round in circles, taking care to do double stitches every now and then so the rug sits flat. Now my wool basket is empty and I can look for a new project, maybe out of this book?

Here are 2 of the projects I´ve finished this weekend. I bought some knitted gloves on sale and decorated them with buttons. It was too tedious to sew them on as I couldn´t get inside the gloves with my needle and thread so I glued them on. I was inspired by some lovely pillows I saw here.
I also crocheted some vases from yarn I´ve had for ages and put jars inside to make them sturdy. I will use one to put my paint brushes in and the other as a vase in the kitchen. I am also working on some pillows and bags made from tea towels...I´ll take photos when I´m finished. I got this great idea from Kali, a lovely lady with a beautiful blog and an amazing house.
I can´t believe how many photos have been posted on "corners of my home" I am amazed at all the creative, positive people out there that I didn´t have a clue about a couple of weeks ago. THANKYOU all for brightening my days and getting me moving aswell!
